Sc Osha Cites Charleston Fire Department

Charleston, SC (September 21, 2007) – South Carolina OSHA has not had time to submit its report June 18 sofa store fire in which nine Charleston firefighters lost their lives. The summary, which was issued by the Agency has now taken the lead in the city of Charleston Volunteer Fire Department and the serious violations that led to the deaths of firefighters.

The notice of citation and penalty, there are four separate incidents, from the deliberate infringement. SC OSHA noted that the CFD “… knew or should have known not issue the command system for the general security forces and their activities.”

The report adds three serious injuries that are not operated procedure for fighting a fire in a roof of a building, which is to protect the body was not required to take the nine firefighters dead, and that self – contained breathing apparatus Independence is not required to be worn at any time, four firefighters who were exposed to smoke and toxic substances.

The total fine imposed against the CFD less than $ 10,000. But after you put the safety of firefighters, Chief Billy Goldfeder, “The amount of dollars ISN  ‘t really matter at this stage.” He continues: “The fact that (the Department) arrived, condemned these violations and directly contributed to the line of duty death of nine firefighters CFD is the question.”

The quote, in particular the deliberate, have shaken the global fight against fire. In South Carolina, Fire Service was the prompt reply. Michael Parrotta of South Carolina Professional Firefighters Association says firefighters have lost faith in Chief Rusty Thomas, and demanded his immediate resignation.

Just a day after the fire, many firefighters are called to be exposed to Thomas. But Mayor Joe Riley of Charleston has repeatedly stressed that while he was mayor Fire Chief Thomas living in the city. But television reporter Sarah DeMarco is a recent report, “Some say that if  is the case, then maybe there  ’s also time for Riley to find a new job.”

“The new report is a wake-up call for change. ” Declares the Charleston Firefighters Association, Local 61 President Roger Yow.

Note C  ‘is not only firefighters who are running the Charleston Fire Department is entitled to an unsafe manner, “Yow.” Now, state officials were also convicted Chief Thomas  ’s lack of leadership. ”

Riley said the mayor will revolt against citations for safety violations issued by SC OSHA. He believes that the State Agency has “… unfairly penalized the city.

Sofa Store fire that will support the Charleston Nine, the worst is the loss of jobs for the fire service in North America after the events of 9/11/01, and history is being closely followed by the fire, relief agencies throughout the world.

SC OSHA report is a wake-up call for firefighters and national ramifications. Send a message to the mayor, community leaders and officials of the fire at the national level, their leaders the opportunity to choose – popularity.

During the last generation of firefighters here in America recorded a more than in the first 300 years. In my opinion, it was only a matter of time before an accident like a fire in Charleston sofa instead. Perhaps it could be achieved in an American city, CFD, because it is the only agency that firefighters are still working in the past.

Chief Thomas Choice “for the control procedures for fire, ignoring widely accepted, is a clear contempt for the men and women who serve under him. It ‘time for Thomas to withdraw and leave the Charleston Fire Department will be rebuilt . And ‘the best scenario for the citizens of one of the most beautiful cities in America – one that will allow firefighters from Charleston to show their true abilities and opportunities.
