What Does The Symbol < Mean In The English Marking Code?

My teacher made some < symbols before the start of some of my sentences, after the full stop.
What does it mean?

I’m not 100% but I think it means you could join the two sentences together with a conjunction.

Move one space to the left. You may have too many spaces in between your period. Some teachers want you to space twice after a period and some only want one space.
